Sedation is commonly used during dental procedures of an extended length or during procedures performed on patients with high levels of anxiety regarding the procedure. Oral sedation can be used to put the patient in a relaxed, comfortable, conscious state during which they are able to talk and breathe on their own.

The Sedation Process

Patients who opt to use oral sedation are given an oral medication about an hour before their appointment. The oral medication will put the patient in a heightened state of relaxation and comfort. A local anesthetic is administered once the oral sedation has taken effect. However, many patients do not remember receiving the local anesthetic when the procedure is over as a result of their sedation.

Benefits of Sedation

Sedation dentistry is an excellent choice for patients who feel immense anxiety with regard to dental procedures. If you are moderately anxious about undergoing extensive dental work, a sedation option such as anxiolysis may be the right option for you.

It can also be a smart time-saving option for busy individuals who would like to get all of their dental work done in one sitting. Oral sedation is safer and less expensive than IV sedation, making it a great option for anyone undergoing extensive dental work.

At Vineyard Dental, your comfort is our top priority – that's why we offer sedation options that will put even the most dentist-phobic patients at ease.  All of our sedation services are performed in our facility, saving our patients from having to schedule multiple dentist appointments.
